The componential surface finds its inspiration in Adire, an intricate Yoruba textile originating from southwest Nigeria. Crafted by Yoruba women, this dyed cloth is the result of various resist-dyeing techniques, yielding a material embellished with vibrant wax-resist patterns.
The geometry of Adire is harnessed through the application of 3ds Max. By utilising wax-resist methods, individual patterns on the fabric can be clustered together, reconstructing the geometry into morphed quarters that form a distinctive pattern. This innovative approach allows for the creation of building skins and facade elements. The intricate patterns are developed using 3ds Max’s morphing tool, arranged in a linear direction, and further enhanced with modifications such as turbosmooth and shell modifications.
