Biomimicry
Academic
Independent Study | Prof. Ayodele Iyanalu | Iowa State University
Role
Reseacher
Date
Spring 2025
This independent study explored the theoretical and practical applications of biomimicry principles within architectural puppetry—herein referred to as puppet details. The investigation focused on integrating adaptable and flexible systems into architectural design through a dual approach of speculative and experimental inquiry.
Key explorations involved examining surface and structural thresholds, emphasizing the relationship between structure and skin within architectural systems. Participants engaged in iterative processes of dissection, analysis, and synthesis, investigating how material properties, structural configurations, and external forces dynamically interact. The ultimate aim was to develop innovative paradigms and frameworks that could be applied across multiple architectural scales.
